Turkey, Russia sign for pilot implementation at airports

Turkish State Minister and Deputy Premier Hayati Yazici said on Thursday that a memorandum of understanding was signed between Turkish and Russian customs authorities, and accordingly, a pilot implementation would be initiated in Turkey's Ataturk and Sabiha Gokcen airports as well as Russia's Minokova airport.

Holding a press briefing on the customs problems between Turkey and Russia, Yazici said that there had been problems in customs transaction between the two countries for almost a year and officials from both countries carried out intense studies in order to put an end to the ongoing conflict.

Referring to the customs protocol signed between the countries in September 2008, Yazici said, "pursuant to such protocol, a memorandum of understanding covering technical issues has been signed. According to this memorandum, a pilot implementation will be initiated in Ataturk and Sabiha Gokcen airports of Turkey and Minokova airport of Russia".

Yazici said that the pilot implementation would be extended to other locations later on and Turkish and Russian technical delegations would hold talks in customs points and ports of each other's countries.

"I hope the technical studies will be carried out rapidly. Once this pilot implementation is brought to life, it will be carried out in all points of land, sea and air transportation and it will cover all kinds of products in the upcoming phases," Yazici said.
