Turkey-S Korea talks on defense cooperation

Turkish and South Korean defense officials opened five-day talks over bilateral defense cooperation in Ankara, the South Korean Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) said Tuesday.

Turkey wants to cooperate with S Korea on shipbuilding program to develop large-deck landing ships and tank landing ships, the Korea Times reported.

Turkey also wants to purchase the South Korean Army's K-10 ammunition re-supply vehicles, a DAPA official told the report.

Beyazit Karatas, an assistant minister for technology cooperation from Turkey's Defense Ministry, represents Turkey's delegation at the talks while DAPA deputy chief Kim Jong-min leads the Korean delegation.

Defense cooperation talks between Seoul and Ankara were first held in 1999.
