The railways between Aleppo (Syria)-Mersin (southern Turkish province) and Aleppo-Gaziantep (southeastern Turkish province) will boost ties between Turkey and Syria in the areas of tourism and commerce.
Syrian Railways' (CFS) Director General Georges Mokabari said on Wednesday that they had a great cooperation with the Turkish State Railways (TCDD) and they were conducting several projects with TCDD.
"Turkey is the door of Syria to Europe. We attach a great importance to Turkey. Cobanbey (railway station in southern Turkish province of Kilis) is closed now due to land-mines. Turkey is working to clear land-mines there. Aleppo-Mersin and Aleppo-Gaziantep railways will start to serve after sweeping of land-mines," Mokabari said.
The mentioned railways would also contribute to development of Aleppo, Gaziantep and Mersin, he said.
TCDD Director General Erol Inan said, "Kilis governor's office has been working on sweeping of land-mines and a new tender will be held soon."
