Turkey says new THY flight to Indonesian capital to help boost trade
Turkey's flag carrier Turkish Airlines, or THY, has added Indonesian capital city of Jakarta to its destinations and made its first flight on Friday with Turkish finance minister on board.

THY's Airbus 340-300 airplane took off from Istanbul late Thursday and landed at Soekarno-Hatta Jakarta Airport on Friday after a stop in Singapore.

Turkish Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek, who spoke at a ceremony organized in Jakarta on the occasion of THY's first flight from Istanbul, said that THY flights between Turkey and Indonesia would help improve trade volume.

He said Indonesia was Turkey's sixth largest trade partner with 1.68 billion USD trade volume in 2008.

THY Chairman Candan Karlitekin, who also took the floor at the ceremony, said that Jakarta was the 119th international destination where THY flies. He said flights would be considered as a tourism bridge between the two countries.

THY will fly five times a week between Istanbul and Jakarta. THY plans to carry 25,000 passengers in a year.
