Turkey says to prepare intl deals over nuclear plant tender

The Turkish energy minister said on Tuesday that electricity unit price was one of the determining elements in nuclear power plant tender.

Turkey's Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz said that electricity prices in the earlier cancelled nuclear power plant tender were high.

"We have to make the price reasonable," Yildiz told reporters after participating the Third World Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates.

In the cancelled tender, the offered electricity unit price was 21.5 cents.Yildiz said the government would prepare international agreements regarding the nuclear power plant and submit it to the parliament for ratification.

"Such agreements are above laws," he said.

Yildiz said Turkey was planning to construct the nuclear power plant in Akkuyu region of the southern province of Mersin.

Also, Turkey was thinking of building another nuclear plant in the northern province of Sinop, Yildiz also said.

The tender on September 24, 2008 was the fourth one held for the first nuclear power plant of Turkey. Only one participant, the Russian-Turkish "Atomstroyexport-Inter Rao-Park Teknik" Consortium, submitted an offer in the tender.

The previous three tenders had failed.

Turkey cancelled on November 20, 2009 the nuclear power plant tender.
