Turkey says willing to establish joint economic sphere with Iran

Turkish State Minister Kursad Tuzmen said Tuesday Turkey wishes to establish a joint economic sphere with Iran.

Tuzmen met with Iranian Minister of Commerce Masud Mir-Kazemi in Tehran on Tuesday and later attended a seminar on Turkish-Iranian Economic and Commercial Cooperation.

We pay high attention to increasing commercial relations with Iran, Tuzmen said.

In order to increase commercial relations, both Turkey and Iran must drop their customs tariffs, Tuzmen said.

Once price differences of fuel are eradicated, problems in transportation will end, Tuzmen said.

We wish for Turkish trucks to reach countries via Iran and for Iranian trucks to reach countries via Turkey with no difficulties, Tuzmen stressed.

Reminding that the trade volume between Turkey and Iran is 10 billion USD, Tuzmen said that Turkey wishes to establish a joint economic sphere with Iran.

We have made necessary efforts and prepared the infrastructure for such a zone, Tuzmen said.

Mir-Kazemi said that Tuzmen's visit to Tehran will boost relations between Turkey and Iran.

It is important to develop regional cooperation at a time of global financial crisis, Mir-Kazemi said.

Iran is appropriate for Turkish investors, Mir-Kazemi also said.

Tuzmen announced that Turkey's national air carrier Turkish Airlines (THY) will soon begin flights to Meshed, Iran.
