The senior South Korean envoy in Turkey visited the chamber of commerce in a Turkish Aegean city on Friday.

Chang Yeob Kim, the South Korean ambassador to Turkey, visited the Chamber of Commerce in the Aegean city of Izmir, and had a meeting with Ekrem Demirtas, the head of the chamber.

"When Turkey and South Korea sign a free trade agreement, obstacles will be eliminated and bilateral trade will increase," Chang Yeob Kim said during the meeting.

Chang said that the feasibility works on the agreement were being carried out in the South Korean capital of Seoul, and the second phase of deliberations would take place in the Turkish capital of Ankara in the second half of the year.

The ambassador said that Turkish government should open a promotion office in South Korea, and also said that 125,000 South Korean people visited Turkey last year.

Also speaking in the meeting, Demirtas said that 140 South Korean companies were operating in Turkey, and 10 of them were based in Izmir.

Demirtas also said that the number of South Korean firms operating in Turkey should be increased.

Turkish-South Korean trade volume was 4.5 billion USD in 2007.
