Turkey, Spain draft environment cooperation deal

Turkish Environment and Forestry Minister Veysel Eroglu said Saturday that Turkey and Spain drafted an agreement for cooperation in areas of environment and forestry.

Eroglu, who attended the informal meeting of EU's environment ministers in Sevilla, told AA that the agreement was expected to be signed during the upcoming Turkey-Spain Intergovernmental Summit to be held in Madrid in February.

Eroglu who commented on the meeting of environment ministers said the EU which did not get the results it expected in the Copenhagen summit on climate change wanted to take decisive steps and urged all parties to fulfill their duties and to reach a consensus.

It said the EU wanted a greener economy, by utilising renewable energy resources, and technologies with low carbon emissions.

Eroglu said he expressed in his speech at the meeting that Turkey made huge leaps in areas like hydro-electric and wind power.
