Istanbul Strait which was temporarily closed to tanker transit for nearly one hour due to poor visibility has been reopened, authorities said on Saturday.

Heavy snowfall and strong winds have been affecting Istanbul, Turkey's largest metropolis, since late Friday.

The Istanbul Strait, also known as Bosphorus, which links the Black Sea with the Marmara Sea, had been temporarily suspended to all vessels in both ways, an official said.

The strait is one of the world's busiest waterways. It provides the only navigable waterways for oil-exporting Black Sea ports.
