Turkey thanks Djibouti for support in combating pirates


Turkish President Abdullah Gul said that he would like to thank Djiboutian President Ismail Omar Guelleh for their support to Turkish frigate in combating pirates in Gulf of Aden.

Speaking to reporters at a joint press conference with Djiboutian President Ismail Omar Guelleh in Ankara, Gul said that Turkish and Djiboutian officials discussed regional matters and bilateral relations in the areas of trade, investment, security and defense during meetings.

Djibouti played an important role in regard to the latest developments in Gulf of Aden and its cooperation in combating pirates there was appreciated, Gul said.

Turkish International Cooperation & Development Agency (TIKA) carried out significant activities in Africa and it also contributed to development of Djibouti, he said.

Before the press conference, Turkish and Djiboutian authorities signed visa exemption agreement and a technical cooperation agreement between education ministries of the two countries.
