Turkey to appoint new Chief of General Staff in August

The meeting will be held under the chairmanship of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Turkey to appoint new Chief of General Staff in August
Supreme Military Board (YAS) will convene in Ankara between August 1st and 4th.

The meeting will be held under the chairmanship of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The Board will assess the promotion and retirement of personnel of Turkish Armed Forces. Also chain of command will be re-shaped during the meeting.

Term in office of Turkish Chief of General Staff Gen. Yasar Buyukanit, Land Forces Commander Gen. Ilker Basbug and Gendarmery Commander Gen. Isik Kosaner will end on August 30th, 2008.

Gen. Basbug is expected to be appointed as the new Chief of General Staff by replacing Gen. Buyukanit.

The decisions, which will be made in YAS meeting, will be presented to approval of President Abdullah Gul, and then made public.
