Turkey to attend human rights meeting in Switzerland

A Turkish state minister flew to Switzerland on Thursday.

Turkey's State Minister Cevdet Yilmaz and Mevlut Cavusoglu, the president of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), will participate in a conference on the future of European Court of Human Rights.

Yilmaz will return to Turkey on Friday.

Human rights ministers from 47 COE member states will gather at the Casino Kursaal in Interlaken, Switzerland on February 18 and 19.

The aim of the conference, which is being organised by the Swiss Chairmanship of the COE's Committee of Ministers, is to reaffirm member states' commitment to protecting human rights in Europe, and their determination to enable the European Court of Human Rights, which is a vital cog in the protection mechanism, to cope with the growing volume of applications.
