Turkey is likely to opt for either Russian S-400 missile systems or US Patriot systems for its new defense project, despite having also asked for price and product information from Israel and China, according to a report on the NTVMSNBC Web site.
Turkey's Undersecretariat for the Defense Industry (SSM) gave the green light for an initial acquisition of four long-range missile defense systems worth around $1.2 billion in March of last year. US, Russian, Chinese and Israeli companies are competing with their missile systems.
Turkish military and civilian officials are scheduled to visit the US in the second half of May to observe Patriot missile production operations on site.
The SSM might go for the Russian systems if Moscow comes up with an offer to transfer high technology as well as a larger share of work in the project to local companies.
