Turkey to cooperate with France against forest fires
Director General of Forestry, Osman Kahveci, said Wednesday that forest fires have turned into international natural disasters from local disasters.
"As there is a need for international cooperation, we will establish a 'Fire Training Center' which will facilitate cooperation between Mediterranean and neighboring countries," Kahveci said.
A "Fire Expert Training" began at the Forestry Department in southern province of Antalya with the cooperation of Turkey and France, Kahveci said.
"A tender took place for aerial vehicles to be used against fires. We have leased 16 helicopters and four planes to be used in cases of fire," Kahveci said.
"Special units have been created as part of the Forestry Department that will effectively fight against forest fires," Kahveci said.
"Turkish Forestry Department will extend help to neighboring and Mediterranean countries in cases of forest fires," Kahveci also said.
