The western province of Izmir, the third biggest and most populous city of Turkey, is getting ready to host two important international events in the fall and receive distinguished guests including high-level politicians, bureaucrats and businessmen.
The first event will take place from September 25th to 26th with the initiatives of the Izmir Chamber of Commerce.
A symposium called "Mediterranean Trade and 1000 Years Of History Of The Port Cities: Past And Future" will bring together a number of politicians and businessmen in the city.
The symposium aims at strengthening cultural, economic and tourism relations among all Mediterranean-littoral countries.
High-level officials from Jordan, Morocco, Albania, Greece, Croatia, Italy and Egypt are expected to attend the event.
President Nicholas Sarkozy of France was also invited.
9th north-south Europe Economic Forum
Izmir will be the venue of the annual North-south Europe Economic Forum (ANSEEF) of the Institute for European Affairs (INEA) in the first week of November.
The forum took place in Spain in 2005, in Norway in 2006 and in Montenegro in 2007.
This year's forum is themed "Turkey - a strong partner for Europe". High-level personalities from economy, politics, administration and science from more than 30 nations are expected to attend the two-day event.
They will discuss, either in discussion meetings or in bilateral talks, the chances for a lasting and trustable partnership between the EU member-states and Turkey and the possibilities for economic co-operation with Turkey.
