Turkish State Minister Kursad Tuzmen said on Friday that Turkey would increase trade volume and investments with Catalonia.
Tuzmen, who is currently in Spain, met Josep Lluis Carod Rovira, vice-president of Autonomous Community of Catalonia.
Tuzmen said that today's Turkey had similarities with 2002's Spain in terms of economy.
Tuzmen said that Spain doubled its export rate in 2002-2007, while Turkey increased its export figures three times in the same period.
He said that Spanish exports had been 115 billion USD and imports had been 149 billion USD in 2002 while Turkish exports had been 107 billion USD and imports had been 169 billion USD in 2007.
Tuzmen said that Spain's gross national product was 635 billion USD in 2002; Turkey's GNP was 630 billion USD in 2007. "Thus, I can say that we are following Spain five years behind," he added.
