Turkey to promote Mardin as rising star in Midle East
Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said south-eastern province of Mardin would be the rising star of the Middle East.
Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said Saturday (south-eastern province of Mardin) would be the rising star of the Middle East.
Having arrived in Mardin to attend a conference meeting of Turkish ambassadors, Davutoglu visited the Governorship, local brigade, and Mayor of Mardin on Saturday.
Speaking at Mardin Mayor Besir Ayanoglu's office, Davutoglu said that Mardin was one of the richest cultural treasures of the world.
Our ministry will do whatever is possible to promote Mardin, a cultural treasure of Turkey. Mardin is a province located as a center between Turkey, Syria and Iraq. As such, Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs pays high attention to this province.
Mardin must be developed without (negatively) affecting its historical texture. Mardin must be regarded as a central city in the Middle East and not just any ordinary Turkish city on the border. This is an important goal for our economic strategy. As our economic influence goes up, Mardin will become the rising star of the Middle East. We will take all necessary steps so that funds from the European Union (EU) and the Development Bank flow into Mardin, Davutoglu said.
Davutoglu later met with representatives of several non-governmental organizations at Mardin's Artuklu Hotel in a meeting that was closed to the press corps.
