Turkey to submit candidate dossier to UEFA

The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) will hand over its candidate dossier to European football's governing body, UEFA, next week for being the host country of the 2016 UEFA European Football Championship or Euro 2016.

The federation said in a statement that State Minister Faruk Nafiz Ozak, TFF Chairman Mahmut Ozgener as well as TFF deputy chairman Lutfi Aribogan and Servet Yardimci would attend a ceremony in Swiss city of Nyon on February 15 and hand over Turkey's dossier to UEFA officials.

The host country will be announced on May 28.

Four bids came to host the tournament that will take place in the summer of 2016. Since Norway and Sweden withdrew their joint bid in December 2019, Turkey, Italy and France are the candidate countries.

State Minister Ozak, on December 23, 2009, announced Turkey's official candidature logo and 8 host cities (Ankara, Antalya, Bursa, Eskisehir, Istanbul, Izmir, Kayseri and Konya) and 3 backup cities (Adana, Sanliurfa and Trabzon) for the country's bid. Turkey plans to host the tournament with 9 stadiums in 8 cities with Istanbul hosting 2 stadiums.
