Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan said Thursday that all parties should abide by the UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
The Security Council passed a resolution urging an "immediate, durable and fully respected ceasefire", and for Israel to withdraw from Gaza after its two-week air and ground offensive.

"The UN resolution should be put into practice by all parties. This is a stance of the international community as a single body. This is a demand, and Israel and all parties should absolutely meet this demand," Babacan said, "A move against this resolution, or continuation of violence despite it, would not be acceptable."
Babacan also said that the rift between Palestinian groups should be removed as soon possible.
"Otherwise, this disagreement would give serious harm to Palestinian case. In order to reach that unity, there is need for solidarity and consensus among the regional countries, especially the Arab ones," Babacan said.
Babacan, who emphasized Turkey's special position in the region, said, "we are holding talks with everybody. We can both talk to Arab countries and Israel easily. We can also talk to Palestinian groups. Turkey is a country that has won their confidence."
14 of 15 Security Council members including Turkey voted in favor of the resolution which stresses the urgency of and calls for an immediate, durable and fully respected cease-fire, leading to the full withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.
