Prime Minister Erdogan expressed profound sorrow over killing of six troops in clashes with militants.

"These bullets targeting our security forces, our troops, will never deter the government's ongoing process aiming at unity and solidarity of 72 million people in Turkey. We will maintain our national unity project, our democratization project with the same determination," he said.

Meanwhile, President Abdullah Gul strongly condemned the attacks in a message.

"The attacks in Siirt and Hakkari in which six troops were martyred in a period when good-will efforts are under way to consolidate the atmosphere of unity and tranquillity in the country, created profound sorrow.
