Turkey's automotive manufacturing recorded a 24.2 % year-on-year decline down to 870,000 motor vehicles in 2009, revealed data by Automotive Industry Association (OSD).

According to OSD figures, car manufacturing declined 18% year-on-year in 2009 down to 511,000.

In commercial vehicles, production recorded a year-on-year decline of 89% in small trucks, 75% in midi-busses, 74% in large trucks, 44% in mini-busses, 27% in pick-up trucks and 22% in busses.

629,000 passenger vehicles were exported in 2009, marking a 31% decline compared to 2008.

Figures by Uludag Exporters' Association (UIB) and Central Anatolian Exporters' Association (OAIB) revealed that exports totaled USD 14.5 billion and the the overall decline in auto exports had been 35%.

576,000 vehicles were sold throughout Turkey in 2009 with the domestic market expanding 9.4% compared to 2008. Auto sales rose 20.9% up to 370,000 compared to the previous year.

Both the VAT tax cut campaigns of the government and individual discount campaigns of the companies have helped boost the sales.
