Turkish State Minister and Chief Negotiator for EU talks, Egemen Bagis, had an extremely busy diplomatic traffic in 2009.

Egemen Bagis paid high attention to countries relevant to Turkey's EU accession process in 2009.

Within this framework, Bagis visited Belgium eight times, France four times, Sweden and the Czech Republic three times, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and Germany twice, and Switzerland, Italy, Finland, Greece, Croatia, Austria, Spain, Moldova and Britain once in 2009.

Egemen Bagis talked about Turkey's EU process in 22 Turkish provinces last year.

Bagis visited the United States twice and Mexico once in 2009.

Minister Bagis continues to hold talks about Turkey's EU accession process in 2010. Bagis is expected to pay a visit to Spain, the new term president of the EU, next week.

Speaking to reporters after assuming the term presidency of the EU, Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos Cuyaube said that they wanted to speed up Turkey's accession negotiations in the upcoming months.

Spain wishes to open new chapters to negotiations. There are four chapters which we hope to open to negotiations, Moratinos stressed.
