Turkey's consumer confidence index increases in 2009

The consumer confidence index increased by 2.37 percent in January over to the previous month and became 71.56, the Turkish Board of Statistics said.

The consumer confidence index increased by 2.37 percent in January 2009 over to the previous month and became 71.56, the Turkish Board of Statistics (TUIK) said on Monday.

According to the monthly Consumer Tendency survey carried out by TUIK in cooperation with the Turkish Central Bank, purchase power decreased to 62.72 in January 2009 from 64.9 in December 2008.

General economic situation index for the next three months increased to 63.87 from 62.19 while job opportunities index for the next six months rose to 64.92 from 63.42.
