Turkish economy grew by 6.6 percent in the first quarter of 2008 and performed better than expected despite global uncertainties, an official statement said on Friday.
State Ministry released a statement after the economy assessment meeting that took place in Ankara and said industrial sector's growing by 7.2 percent and recovery in agriculture sector signalled that Turkish economy could reach 4.5 percent growth target at the end of 2008.
The ministry said Turkey's exports increased by 34.9 percent in the first six months of 2008 when compared to the same period last year.
"Exports are expected to exceed 135 billion USD at the end of 2008," it said.
The ministry's statement said the budget yielded a surplus of 1.9 billion YTL in the first half of this year.
