Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu met with Turkish Cypriot Prime Minister Dervis Eroglu in Lefkosa on Tuesday ahead of the second round of peace talks which are scheduled to start on Thursday.

"The Cyprus issue is the top priority for Turkey no matter how busy its foreign policy agenda is," Davutoglu told reporters before the meeting.

Davutoglu said Turkish government was ready to extend any kind of support for Turkish Cypriots' well-being, prosperity security and stability, expressing hope that the second round of talks between Turkish Cypriot President Mehmet Ali Talat and Greek Cypriot leader Demetris Christofias would produce a proper ground for a lasting and comprehensive settlement on the island.

Eroglu said on his part that he was pleased to have Davutoglu in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) despite latter's busy agenda.

"We are fighting for a common cause. We are very happy to see that Mr. Davutoglu spared time for the TRNC ahead of the second round of talks," Eroglu said.

The Turkish foreign minister was later received by President Talat. The two are expected to appear at a joint press conference.
