Turkey's Gul says Bahrain visit to boost economic ties

Turkish President Abdullah Gul said on Tuesday that the priorities of his visit to Bahrain would be to deepen economic cooperation and boost business opportunities in various areas especially in contractor services.

Prior to his departure for Bahrain, Gul held a press conference at Ankara's Esenboga Airport and reminded that King Hamad bin Isa al-Khalifa of Bahrain paid a visit to Turkey last year.

Gul said that his visit would be the first one on presidential level from Turkey to Bahrain since 1999.

We will assess the steps which can be taken to further develop the cooperation between Turkey and Bahrain on regional matters as well as the bilateral relations, added Gul.

He also said that the trade volume between the two countries, which was 403 million USD, was not enough.

Gul said that a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in agriculture and tourism sectors would be signed between the two countries during his visit.

Turkey attaches great importance to relations with Gulf countries, he added.
