High-speed trains, which started operating between capital Ankara and central Anatolian province of Eskisehir in March 2009, have carried 1 million passengers in 10 months.

Speaking to AA, Director General of Turkish Railways (TCDD) Suleyman Karaman said Wednesday that people who lived in one of these cities and worked or studied in the other neighboring cities mainly preferred the high-speed train which shortened the travel time between the two cities to 1.5 hours.

"Students, teachers, military personnel and civil servants can return to their homes safely in the evening thanks to the high-speed train," Karaman said.

Karaman also said that TCDD's goal was to carry 2 million passengers by high-speed trains in 2010.

Turkey's first "High Speed Train" started operating on Ankara-Eskisehir route on March 13, 2009.
