Turkey's parliament speaker meets Tunisia's Mebazaa
Turkey's parliament speaker had a meeting with his Tunisian counterpart on Tuesday.
The meeting between Turkish Parliament Speaker Koksal Toptan and Foued Mebazaa, the speaker of the Chamber of Deputies of Tunisia, took place at the Turkish parliament in Ankara.

"Bilateral relations will be speeded up after this visit," Toptan said during the meeting.

Toptan said that the two countries were cooperating in many international initiatives, and thanked for Tunisia's support to Turkey's candidacy for a non-permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council.

Mebazaa welcomed Turkey's role as a mediator particularly in the Middle East, and said that his country was supporting a union for the Mediterranean.

"However, we think the same as Turkey, and we believe that this initiative should not be alternative to Turkey's European Union membership," Mebazaa said.

Mebazaa also said that his country was doing its best to make the Mediterranean a lake of peace, confidence and cooperation.

After the meeting, the Turkish-Tunisian Parliamentary Friendship Group hosted a luncheon in honor of the Tunisian speaker and the accompanying delegation at the parliament.
