Turkey's PM says Gaza stance human

Turkish prime minister has dismissed reports that Turkey's foreign policy was shifting course to an eastern oriented direction.

"Our attitude regarding the incidents in Gaza is not the reflection of a shift of axis in our foreign policy but it is the manifestation of what is human, sincere and of our conscientious responsibility," Recep Tayyip Erdogan told a conference meeting of Turkish ambassadors in capital Ankara.

Erdogan said the improvement of Turkey's relations with countries such as Iraq, Iran, Georgia, Syria, Lebanon and Saudi Arabia disturbed certain circles, adding that Turkey was no longer "an object but an actor in international developments and world politics."

"What can be wrong in this? These countries are historically and culturally related with Turkey and even we have kinship with them [...] What is wrong is that we do not question why have turned our backs on our neighbors for so many years," Erdogan said.
