Turkey's PM says widening global gap risks global instability

Turkish prime minister has issued a warning that the global gap between rich and poor countries was widening, which he said risked global instability.

"The gap between rich and poor is widening which is obviously of grave danger in an era of rapid globalization and information technologies," Recep Tayyip Erdogan told Monday a Madrid meeting on "Turkey-Spain: Common Vision for Peace, Stability and Prosperity."

"Billions of people in Africa and Asia face hunger and they see on their TVs the luxury developed countries enjoy. This fuels hopelessness and pessimism in poor countries, which risk illegal migration, growing crime rates, and global terrorism," he warned.

Erdogan said "insecure financial management" made global crises inevitable adding that such a global system had no chances of sustainability.

"As economic crises, global political crises also threatens the world. And together with Spain, we are jointly struggling against such a global threat in our effort for the Alliance of Civilizations to fight off intolerance and lack of dialogue," Erdogan said.

Erdogan also said the Alliance of Civilizations aimed at showing that different cultures and civilizations could work in friendship and harmony for peace and tolerance.
