Turkey's state-run Ziraat Bankasi opened on Tuesday its first branch in Athens, becoming the first Turkish commercial bank to ever have an office in Greece.
Attending the opening ceremony of the branch, Turkish State Minister Nazim Ekren said a series of structural reforms that Turkey had made over the last couple of years had strengthened Turkish banking system in neighboring and regional countries.
"The two branches to be opened in this friendly and neighboring country will begin its operations with a capital of near 18 million euros. Ziraat Bankasi branches in Greece will extend major support for Turkish as well as Greek businessmen in their mutual trade and investments," Ekren said.
The Turkish bank is also set to open another branch in Greek city of Komotini.
