Turkish state-run radio and television network TRT will launch a new TV channel to broadcast to Europe, the Middle East, the Balkans and the Central Asia, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Tuesday.
TRT's new channel will start broadcasting in Turkish on March 21, the Nevruz Day, which symbolizes the beginning of spring and is celebrated in a large geography especially by peoples of Turkic countries, Anatolia, Caucasus, Central Asia and the Middle East.
"We will have the chance to give our voice to the region where our citizens and kinsmen live. We will also have the chance to be informed about those places," Erdogan told a party meeting at the Turkish Parliament.
On January 1, TRT launched TRT 6 which broadcasts in Kurdish 24 hour a day.
Erdogan said TRT would also renew its existing international channel TRT-INT. He said TRT-INT would go on air with a new face in April as a news and culture channel.
