Turkish Airlines 9-month net profit up 52 pct

Turkish Airlines posted a net profit of 194.19 million lira ($164.98 million) in the first nine months of 2007, up 52.4 percent from the same period last year, Istanbul Stock Exchange data showed on Sunday.

In the same period last year, the flag carrier posted 127.53 million lira net profit.

The data also showed the airliner's sales jumped to 3.38 billion lira in the first nine months from 2.8 billion lira a year ago.

Turkish Airlines' more than 13,000 staff voted in August to strike for more pay and benefits, but the company and the union later struck a deal averting a strike.

In the first half of the year, Turkish Airlines' passenger numbers rose 19.4 percent to 8.9 million. This rose to 16.51 million for the first nine months.
