The International Iraq Fair will be held in the Turkish southeastern province of Gaziantep for the fourth time next year to bring together Iraqi and Turkish companies.
The fair will take place in Gaziantep between May 21st and May 24th next year.
Date of the fair was set at Turkish State Minister Kursad Tuzmen's meeting with his Iraqi counterpart Abd al-Falah al-Sudani during his recent visit to Iraq at the weekend, chairman of Gaziantep Chamber of Commerce Mehmet Aslan and chairman of Gaziantep Chamber of Industry Nejat Kocer said in a joint statement.
"Iraqi officials told us that Gaziantep was a gateway to Iraq for Europe and also the most significant supplier of Iraqi companies," Kocer said.
However, Turkish businessmen have doubts about doing business with Iraq due to security problems, Kocer said. He said trade between Turkey and Iraq would boost if such problems were solved.
"There is a huge demand, mainly in construction and contracting business, from Iraq," Aslan said.
He said Iraqi authorities would prefer Turkish companies in prospective tenders.
Businessmen from Gaziantep expect a total of 1 billion USD of exports to Iraq this year, Aslan added.
Trade volume between Turkey and Iraq was nearly 3.5 billion USD in 2007 and 2.8 billion USD of this amount was Turkish exports.
