Turkish candidate elected PUOICM Secretary General

Turkey's candidate Prof. Dr. Mahmut Erol Kilic has been elected the new Secretary General of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of the Islamic Conference member states (PUOICM) on Monday.

The PUOICM's second extraordinary council session in Istanbul was attended by parliamentarians from 28 countries. PUOICM has 50 members.
Kilic received 30 votes to become the new Secretary General of the PUOICM.

"We will utilize our experiences in Turkey to establish a more civilized image and vision of the Islamic world," Kilic said after having been elected.

Kilic was born in Istanbul in 1961 and is a graduate of the Political Science Faculty of Istanbul University. Kilic has been serving as a professor of Religious Studies at the Marmara University for the past two decades. Kilic speaks English, French, Arabic and Persian fluently. He is married with two children.
