Turkish Cyprus: UK court ruling not to affect proposals in Greek talks

The spokesperson for the presidency of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) said on Thursday that the Turkish Cypriot party would not change its solution proposals on property issue that were in accordance with international law and UN parameters.

Releasing a written statement, spokesperson Hasan Ercakica said TRNC had expressed on every occasion that property issue, which was one of the most complicated components of the Cyprus problem, could not be solved by international courts, and steps taken to that end would not contribute to a solution, but complicate the existing conflict.

Pointing to a Greek Cypriot spokesperson's remarks stating that "they would use the result of the Orams case in their favor in all platforms including the negotiations", Ercakica said such statement proved the rightfulness of TRNC's warnings one more time.

"The principle of bizonality, which is a fundamental element of the negotiations aiming to find a solution to Cyprus problem, will determine the way to solve the property issue as well," Ercakica said.
