68 years old legendary name of Yesilcam, the Hollywood of Turkey, died in hospital.

Prominent Turkish movie-maker, Zeki Okten, 68, had been taken to hospital two days ago after feeling sick.

Born in Istanbul in 1941, Okten began his filmmaking career in 1961 as the assistant director of Nisan Hancer. He made his first film "Olum Pazari" in 1963. But he gained reputation as director in 1973 with his film "A Bunch of Violets".

Okten received international acclaim with his films "The Herd" in 1978 and "The Enemy" in 1979, both written by Yilmaz Guney.

"The Herd" won nine awards in international film festivals such as the honors at the Locarno Film Festival in 1979 and at Antwerp Film Festival in 1980.
