Turkish FM says int'l force should be deployed in Gaza
Turkish FM said Islamic countries needed to take joint action and the international community ought to not remain indifferent.
Turkey's Foreign Minister Ali Babacan said Saturday that an international force should be deployed to Gaza Strip, and called on Israel to halt all military operations.
Delivering a speech at the Organization of the Islamic conference (OIC) Executive Committee's expanded meeting of Foreign Ministers gathered to discuss the Israeli aggression against the Gaza strip, Babacan said people of Gaza had no access to medical services or to foodstuff.
Babacan said the conflict amongst two major Palestinians groups, Fatah and Hamas, was a major problem, adding that it harmed the peace. He said the two parties should leave aside the disputes and unite, noting that otherwise there was no chance of finding a solution to the problem.
Babacan said, in order to end the tragedy in Gaza, Islamic countries needed to take joint action and the international community ought to not remain indifferent.
"Armed conflict in Gaza should be completely stopped, blockade around Gaza should be lifted and lasting peace should be established. An international force --preferably under UN roof-- should be deployed to Gaza and efforts should be exerted for reconstruction of Palestine," said Babacan.
