Turkish FM says no place for PKK in ideal Iraq

Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan said that certain steps taken by the local administration in the north of Iraq, facilitated the establishment of dialogue.

Babacan Spoke at a program at the state-run TV channel TRT-1 on Turkey's foreign policy, including relations wit Iraq.

Babacan said they had certain problems with the local administration in the north of Iraq, noting that they did not have any problems with the population living there.

"The local administration in the north of Iraq failed to, or deliberately did not distance itself from PKK for a long time. Certain steps taken by them made it easier for us to approach them and establish dialogue. If they had stubbornly insisted on their earlier approach, this face to face dialogue would not be possible. In the long run, this would be to their own benefit. For us, there is no place for the PKK in the ideal Iraq of the future," said Babacan.

Babacan said it was important for U.S. troops in Iraq to withdraw according to a schedule.
