Turkish FM says world must tell Israel clearly 'stop'
Turkey's Foreign Minister Ali Babacan has said that all the world should say stop to Israel clearly.
Babacan told Turkish reporters during his official visit to Sarajevo, the capital city of Bosnia-Herzegovina, "death toll of civilians have exceeded a thousand so far. All these developments imply that some countries should now take action. We have already launched some initiatives to this end. Our delegations are currently in Cairo, Egypt, in search for an immediate cease-fire in the region."
Babacan said that Israel would continue its operation against Gaza as long as it received support from some countries.
"Therefore, the international community, as a whole, must say stop to Israel clearly. Of course, this will be possible only through a UN Security Council resolution and separate statements of countries," he said.
"No one has the patience to wait for another second now. The parties should lay down their arms and give a chance to diplomacy," he said.
Upon a question about news reports saying that Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan would meet President Nicolas Sarkozy of France and President Hosni Mubarak of Egypt in Cairo on January 20, Babacan told reporters that there was no such a scheduled meeting.
