Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan spoke on the phone with Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni and told her that "Israel should immediately stop operations in Gaza", diplomats said on Tuesday.
Babacan and Livni made a phone conversation late Monday. Babacan expressed indignation at Israeli offensive against Gaza, diplomats said.
Babacan called on Israel to halt air, ground and naval operations immediately.
Turkish minister also said that "it was of vital importance to provide humanitarian aid to people of Gaza and underscored that recent developments threatened the region."
Babacan, who arrived in New York on Tuesday, will attend the UN Security Council meeting that is scheduled to discuss Gaza later in the day.
