"Turkish-German University will be established in Istanbul soon under an agreement signed between the two countries", said Huseyin Celik, the DG of Higher Education Department of the Turkish National Education Ministry (MEB), on Saturday.
A MEB delegation headed by Celik is actually in German city of Cologne to discuss necessary procedures for the establishment of the university.
"We will have a similar meeting in Turkey two weeks later. We plan to start education at the Turkish-German University in 2008-2009 education year," Celik told reporters.
According to Celik, first faculties of engineering, law, letters and social sciences will be opened in the Turkish-German University.
Celik added that about 5,000 students are expected to be admitted to the university.
On the other hand, Turkish National Education Minister Huseyin Celik is to visit Germany in October upon an invitation of Barbara Sommer, the Minister for School and Further Education of the state North Rhine-Westphalia.
