Turkish leaders meet over Gaza at Presidential Palace

Turkish President Abdullah Gul held a meeting on Monday with Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Foreign Minister Ali Babacan at Cankaya Presidential Palace in Ankara to discuss the developments in the Middle East.

A statement released by the Presidential Press Center said it was decided in the meeting that Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan would visit New York to attend a meeting at the United Nations and Ahmet Davutoglu, chief adviser to Prime Minister Erdogan, would travel to Damascus, Syria to hold talks upon demand from French President Nicolas Sarkozy who would also visit Syria.

The statement said Premier Erdogan's tour to four countries in the Middle East as well as talks held by President Gul and Erdogan in phone conversations with authorities in the region and Europe were discussed in the meeting.

Efforts would be intensified for transfer of humanitarian aid to the people in Gaza, it added.
