A team of Turkish doctors heading for Gaza in an effort to help Palestinian patients held talks with the Turkish ambassador in Tel Aviv, Israel on Saturday.
Five doctors from "Doctors Worldwide Turkey", who will stay in Gaza for ten days and perform a number of major surgical operations, briefed Turkey's ambassador in Tel Aviv Namik Tan on their activities in the region.
Group coordinator Kerem Kinik said that "Doctors Worldwide Turkey" carried out medical and humanitarian aid activities in 20 countries so far.
Kinik also said the group performed over 127 major surgical operations in 2008 in West Bank.
"This time we will help the Palestinians who got injured in clashes but cannot leave the region to seek medical assistance," Kinik said.
Ambassador Tan said during the meeting that the role Turkish doctors played in the region was of great importance.
"All parties appreciate Turkey's efforts to provide peace and stability in the region," Tan said.
After their talks with Tan, the group of Turkish doctors proceeded to Jerusalem. They will cross to Gaza on Sunday.
