"We hope that our economic relations with Turkey will be as good as our political relations," al-Asad said.

President al-Asad received Wednesday Kursad Tuzmen in Damascus.

"A Middle East process without Turkey is unthinkable. The peace process can not reach a result without Turkey," al-Asad said.

Speaking to reporters after meeting with al-Asad, Tuzmen said that "President al-Asad thanked Turkey for its efforts in the peace process of the Middle East".

"President al-Asad has made important contributions to Turkish-Syrian relations. Mutual high level visits are important to carry the bilateral trade volume to five billion USD in the next three years," Tuzmen said.

"President al-Asad suggested that meetings designed for a compromise between some Arab countries and Palestinians should take place in Istanbul," Tuzmen said.
