Turkish minister receives Syrian parliament delegation
"The trade volume between the countries is expected to exceed 2 billion USD by the end of 2008," Turkish state minister said.
Turkish State Minister Kursad Tuzmen received members of Syria-Turkey Friendship Group on Tuesday.
Replying to questions during the visit, Tuzmen said that Turkey and Syria reached an agreement in 2006 for the establishment of a joint company that would explore oil and natural gas.
Noting that the agreement on such issue had not been signed yet, Tuzmen said the process should be speeded up.
Tuzmen also said that the trade volume between Turkey and Syria rose up to 1.2 billion USD in 2007 thanks to the Free Trade Agreement signed between the two countries.
"The trade volume between the countries is expected to exceed 2 billion USD by the end of 2008 and to reach 5 billion USD within the next 3 years," he said.
Pointing to the successful projects carried out by Turkish contractors all over the world, Tuzmen said that Turkish companies could take part in the infrastructure and superstructure investments in Syria.
Commenting on the importance of railway construction as well, Tuzmen said Syria would be connected to Europe over Turkey.
