Turkish ministry invites bidders to electricity purchase tender

Head of Turkey's Electricity Trade and Contract Co., Haci Duran Gokkaya, announced that the government would purchase electricity from producers for the term between 2009 and 2012 through a tender to be held on March 16th in Ankara.

Speaking at a press conference organised Monday in Ankara by Turkey's Ministry of Energy, Gokkaya said as well as facilities still operational, production facilities to be opened in the next four years, could also participate in the tender.

He said two separate tenders would be held for hydroelectric plants, renewable energy plants and thermal power plants.

Gokkaya said the amount of electricity to be purchased was not determined yet. He said that interested producers would submit offers stating the amount of electricity they could provide for no less than a duration of one year between 2009 and 2012. Offers are expected to be in the form of kWh/Kurus (1TL=100Kurus).

Tender process

Tender commission will determine the minimum acceptable price before opening the offers from bidders. Once the offers are opened, the commission will begin processing offers up from the lowest prices until the amount of energy needed is met.

The commission will sign contracts only with producers who offered a price lower than the maximum price announced by the commission.
