Turkish Parliament to discuss motion for Somali troops deployment
The motion authorizing the government for a duration of one year to deploy Turkish naval ships in Gulf of Aden and at open waters offshore Somalia, will be discussed Tuesday at the Parliament.

According to the motion, Turkish naval ships will not partake in land operations against pirates but will be authorized to investigate suspected ships through radio communication, make on board inspection on ships with the permission of the country the ship is registered to, and follow international law with unregistered ships.

Turkish naval ships deployed in the area will provide escort and protection to merchant ships, help merchant ships which are under attack of pirates and armed robbers, collect evidence, arrest and interrogate criminals, intervene in the naval vessels operated by these criminals and seize them when necessary.

If the parliament authorizes the motion on Tuesday, this will be the 23rd motion allowing Turkish soldiers to be deployed in foreign countries.
