Turkish Parliament Speaker Koksal Toptan has said, "lasting peace between Palestine and Israel is of great importance. Hamas should be involved in this process. It should undertake political responsibility."
President Mahmoud Abbas of Palestine, who is currently paying a state visit to Turkey, received Turkish Parliament Speaker Toptan.
"Problems among Israel, Palestine and the Arab world should be resolved to ensure a peaceful environment in the region. Palestine should first deal with its domestic disputes. I believe that Hamas should be involved in this process. It should undertake political responsibility. As the Turkish parliament, we are ready to do our utmost to contribute to efforts to provide lasting peace and stability in the region," he added.
President Abbas, on his part, said, "this is a national tragedy. 15 percent of buildings in Gaza suffered heavy damage. 1,300 people were killed and more than 5 thousand others were injured. About 90 thousand Gazans were left homeless."
