Turkey's environment minister said on Thursday that a pipeline to be constructed between Turkey and Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) would carry water to this country starting from 2012.
Environment and Forestry Minister Veysel Eroglu met his Turkish Cypriot counterpart Mustafa Gokmen in capital Ankara on Thursday.

During the meeting, Eroglu said that various infrastructural activities were carried out with respect to the water pipeline and the project preparation phase would be completed till the end of 2008.

Noting that all the activities would be completed in 3 years, Eroglu said the pipeline would start operating as of 2012.

Eroglu said that the 25-km part of the pipeline would be constructed on land while the 80-km part of it would be under water.

The pipeline, whose construction would cost nearly 350 million USD, would carry 75 million cubic meters of water to TRNC annually, Eroglu also said.
